The Dyer’s Garden
This garden contains many of the plants used by the medieval dyer whose role was to create the beautiful and richly coloured fabrics worn by people with status and wealth.

Mary Garden
The creation of the Mary Garden at Bolton Castle started with a single plant of Bethlehem Sage which was planted on Good Friday 2015.

Rose Garden and Rose Arbour
Bolton Castle’s rose arbour is created around living willow, in keeping with the medieval period, amongst which the roses can clamber.

Herb Garden
The Herb Garden is divided into sections: Respiratory, Digestive, Anti-inflammatory, Nerves & Emotions, Pain, Wounds, Ophthalmology (Eyes), Poisons & Plague and Magic & Myth.
Bowling green
Encircling the bowling green are richly planted borders filled with traditional flowers and shrubs known in England before 1600.
Vineyard & Maze
Nestled in the lee of the castle, a small vineyard and private maze add a unique and modern feature to the historic gardens.

Garden tours will take in the full breadth of the gardens overlooking beautiful Wensleydale.
